Organized by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, “Ansel Adams in Our Time” showcases the work of the photographer, environmentalist and San Francisco native, who is best known for his high-contrast landscape photographs of California and neighboring states. The show includes some of Adams’ most recognizable works, from famous Yosemite National Park photos to images of the Marin Headlands before the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge.

“The enthusiastic reception by our audiences, who have been flocking to the exhibition, speaks volumes about the profound resonance of the dialogue between Adams and the 23 contemporary photographers in the exhibition, one motivated by environmental concern that remains ever-pressing,” Thomas P. Campbell, director and CEO of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, said in a statement to The Chronicle.

The exhibitionsituatesAdams, who had his first museum show at the de Young in 1932, in the present day, among influences like 19th century landscape photographers Carleton Watkins and Eadweard Muybridge as well as23 contemporary artistssuch as Will Wilson and Catherine Opie. All works within the exhibition’s“interpretive framework”align with Adams’ interest in nature and preservation, delving into the environmental discourse and climate issues in which his work is rooted, according to the museum.
