San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s Free Community Day is scheduled to return to help celebrate San Francisco Pride weekend.

Visitors can explore thousands of works. Among the museum’s latest exhibitions are “Kinship: Photography and Connection,” which explores the relationships that six contemporary photographers have with their subjects, and “Scrappy Chair Challenge,” which showcases five unique chairs made from scrap materials, inspired by works featured in SFMOMA’s “Conversation Pieces: Contemporary Furniture in Dialogue.”
SFMOMA has offered free-admission days during Pride weekend in past years. Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last June, museum directorChristopher Bedford告诉The Chroniclethat the aim of this tradition is to show support for the city’s queer community.
In another sign of support,205 SFMOMA employees plan to participate in this year’sPride Paradeon Sunday, June 25, marching with #MuseumsWithPride, a collective of local museums and cultural organizations, such as the Asian Art Museum and the Exploratorium.

“Celebrating LGBTQ+ artists and the LGBTQ+ community is one of our key areas of focus at SFMOMA and a critical component of our mission to share the art of our time with passion and purpose,” Bedford said in a statement. “As museums, we have the power and the privilege to be a force for change.”
Those who are unable to attend the free-admission day can still check outSFMOMA Stories, the museum’s virtual multimedia outlet used to spotlight artists, which has been focusing on the expression of queer identity through art this Pride Month. SFMOMA Stories can be accessed through the museum’s website and are available to the public to browse for free. The site is available year-round, and new features are produced every few months.
In addition to select Community Days, the museum offers free admission to Bay Area residents on the first Thursday of each month. The next one is July 6.
General admission into the museum costs between $19 and $25 for adults on regular days. Patrons 18 and younger are always free.
