Instagram addicts will now have an extra “Infinity Mirror Room” to explore at acclaimed Japanese artistYayoi Kusama’s forthcoming exhibitionat the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
The second reflective work added to “Yayoi Kusama: Infinite Love” will be titled “Love Is Calling (2013),” the institution announced Tuesday, Aug. 29, describing the room as “a darkened environment illuminated by vividly colored inflatable forms that extend from the floor and ceiling, accompanied by the sound of the artist reciting a poem about love.”
The first “Infinity Mirror Room” revealed in the show was the Tokyo-based artist’s latest work, “Dreaming of Earth’s Sphericity, I Would Offer My Love (2023),” which features her signature use of colorful circles.
The 94-year-old’s famed “Infinity Mirror Rooms” showcase reflections of infinite light or shapes. While she has been working with mirrored spaces since the 1960s, Kusama’s immersive art installations have been increasingly popular — and easily recognizable — due to the popularity of social media and the desire for Instagram-ready backdrops.
