Perhaps because of that, this year’s list — including artists, activists, community leaders and journalists — is particularly diverse. According to YBCA, 93% of the honorees are people of color, 73% are artists, 60% are women, and 68% hail from the Bay Area.
On April 3, the honorees will be celebrated at the virtual YBCA 100 Summit, which will feature performances, stories and rituals marking the occasion. Previous recipients include Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza in 2016, “Sorry to Bother You” filmmaker Boots Riley in 2017 and national youth poet laureate Amanda Gorman, who recently found acclaim with她在总统就职典礼上阅读的诗歌，2018年。

Honoree Leticia Hernández said that for seven years, YBCA has been a hub that has supported her “as both a socially engaged interdisciplinary artist and a racial justice educator” and that receiving the honor came at a significant time for her.

Going forward, Hadero says that YBCA will keep the public nomination process in awarding the 100.
