Chris Tucker returned to the big screen this year after a long break; now he’s embarking on his first stand-up comedy tour in more than a decade.
Tucker, best known for starring with Ice Cube in 1995’s “Friday” and the series of“Rush Hour”action movies he did with Jackie Chan, plans to head out on a 30-city tour beginning in September, he announced Wednesday, Aug. 9.“Chris Tucker: The Legend Tour 2023,”produced by Live Nation, includes one Bay Area stop, at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland on Sept. 30.

“I started my career doing stand-up in comedy clubs and it’s stand-up comedy that prepared me for all of my movie roles,” Tucker said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to getting back to my roots. I love performing live, there’s nothing like the energy of a live crowd and making people laugh. I’m excited to be back out on tour.”
Tucker’s breakthrough came in 1992 when he performed stand-up on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam.” Film roles followed in quick succession and included “House Party 3,” “Friday,” “The Fifth Element,” “Money Talks” and a cameo in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown.”
The “Rush Hour” franchise in which Tucker starred, including “Rush Hour 2” (2001) and “Rush Hour 3” (2007), has grossed about $850 million.

Following the release of the first “Rush Hour” movie in 1998, Tucker has made just five movies.
In April, Tucker appeared as Nike executive Howard White in the Ben Affleck-directed“Air,”the story of how the shoe company signed Michael Jordan in the 1980s. It was Tucker’s first film appearance since taking a role in 2016’s “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” directed by Ang Lee.
