那些经历生活喜剧很快发现the benefits are obvious. It’s a chance to convene with our community, to indulge in belly laughs, and, in some cases, to stare intently at the Punch Line’s weird mural of our cityscape.

Sadly, for much of the past two years, such opportunities have been rare. In January, the founders of SF Sketchfest were forced to postpone their annual three-week celebration for a second consecutive time over concerns about new COVID variants.

It’s been tough, but fortunately, the fates finally appear to be shifting in our favor.

With the arrival of spring, we are once again poised to delight in the prospect of upcoming in-person comedy shows that range from local favorites at landmark haunts to big-ticket arena headliners. Simply put: It’s a great time to go see some stand-up in the Bay Area.

If you’re ready to laugh, read on for some of the top shows scheduled for the season.

John Mulaney

Former “Saturday Night Live” writer and acclaimed comic John Mulaney has had himself a very wild year. To summarize: After going to rehab, divorcing his wife, starting a new relationship with actress Olivia Munn and having a child, Mulaney has now returned to the stand-up circuit.

Based on feedback from earlier tour dates, fans can expect the comic to perform new material focused largely on how, well, everything, has played out for him. It’s a new turn for a stand-up best known for long yarns about playing Tom Waits on a restaurant jukebox, but this two-night stand in Berkeley April 28 and 29 from one of the most popular comics working today will undoubtedly be a hot ticket.

“From Scratch”: 7 p.m. April 28-29. $55-$155. Greek Theatre, 2001 Gayley Road, Berkeley.thegreekberkeley.com

Chelsea Handler’s “Vaccinated and Horny” tour plays at the Masonic in May.Photo: Christopher Polk / E! Entertainment / NBCUniversal via Getty Images 2021

Chelsea Handler

Chelsea Handler has no problem with being blunt. She once wrote a best-selling book called “My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands” and has long mined her own dating history for punch lines. With such a knack for keeping it real, it’s perhaps no surprise that her latest tour is titled “Vaccinated and Horny.”

Slated to perform two back-to-back shows May 6 in San Francisco, the talk-show host and veteran comic will likely touch on many of the terrifying absurdities we’ve witnessed over the past few years. You can get a taste of what Handler, now the host of the “Dear Chelsea” podcast, will bring to the Masonic by watching her latest special, “Evolution,” streaming now on HBOMax.

“Vaccinated and Horny”: 7 and 9:30 p.m. May 6. $49.50-$249.50. The Masonic, 1111 California St., S.F.www.livenation.com

Jo Koy takes over Chase Center in May.Photo: Stephen J. Cohen / Getty Images 2021

Jo Koy

Whether he’s discussing Filipino traditions and their quirks or lamenting the life of parenting a Millennial, this former “Chelsea Lately” panelist — who is currently dating Handler — is sure to keep you in stitches when he takes the Warriors’ home court this spring.

“Funny Is Funny”: 8 p.m. May 6-7. $49.50-$99.50. Chase Center, 1 Warriors Way, S.F.www.chaseCenter.com.

Robin Tran

Your days of being able to see Robin Tran perform at a place this intimate may be numbered. Recently named as one of Just for Laugh’s New Faces of 2021, Tran astutely draws on her experiences as a transgender woman to craft jokes that land on every level.

8 p.m. May 11-12; 7:30 and 9:45 p.m. May 13-15. $25-$35. Punch Line, 444 Battery St, S.F.punchlinecomedyclub.com
