This is one of the best films ever made about movies, and the best and most lovable film by a great director,Francois Truffaut.
It features Truffaut himself directing the film within a film. Also starring areJacqueline Bisset(as a fragile Hollywood actress),Nathalie Baye (as a movie-obsessed script girl), Valentina Cortese (as a sensitive older star coming apart at the seams) and Jean-Pierre Leaud, who is the subject of an ongoing Pacific Film Archive retrospective.
An affectionate tribute to the business of making movies and the temporary makeshift families that spring up around a film set, there’s a beautiful spirit to this film that will send you out of the theater glowing.
“Day for Night”: 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. $8-$13. Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, 2120 Oxford St., Berkeley.bampfa.org
