In early 2008, Santi Whitereleased her debut album under the moniker Santogold(nowSantigold). It was a time when she and performers like M.I.A. were reimagining what pop music could be. Gone, they decided, were strict conventions. Instead, they created a genre-less landscape, one that borrowed, simultaneously, from indie rock, reggaeton, new wave, hip-hop, bhangra, cumbiaand on and on.

The album, “Santogold,” was described by Pitchfork as “dazzling.”

It’s hard to say if she’s ever reached those heights in subsequent releases. That is not at all a jab at the incredible music she’s since put out (and her most recent mixtape, “I Don’t Want,” comes very, very close). Rather, it’s a testament to the huge industry shift that followed “Santogold” and the real sense of freshness the album brought to the scene. Now her sound is frequently aped by musicians with much less talent but much bigger microphones.

White is celebrating her seminal, debut album with a “Ten Years GolderTour.” Her shows are a visual delight — tightly choreographed, bright and energetic. Whatever she has planned to mark the occasion, there’s no doubt it will be wonderfully nostalgic while also pushing the genre forward.

Santigold: 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18. $35 - $55. The Masonic. 1111 California St., S.F.www.santigold.com
