“The Creatures of Prometheus” is a full-length ballet by Beethoven, but as with so many stage works, the overture is generally the only music to turn up in concert performance. San Francisco Symphony Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen has a plan to change that.

The orchestra’s current program, originally planned as part of a two-week exploration of the Prometheus myth, marks the first time the Symphony has performed Beethoven’s entire score. Instead of live dancers, the concerts will feature film interpolations by animator Hillary Leben.

Datebook Tips

Hayes Valley has become one of San Francisco’s hottest dining neighborhoods. Most restaurants, such asJardiniereand Absinthe, are used to accommodating pre-theater diners, but reservations can be scarce before big shows. Fortunately, a new crop of more casual spots has sprouted in recent years, such asRT Rotisserie,Corridorand Souvla, and these don’t require a reservation. And don’t forget that Zuni is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Find more recommendations inour restaurant guide to the Civic Center and Performing Arts area.
