Outside Lands just got a little more star power.
Indie pop star Conan Gray has been added to thethree-day music festival’s lineupwith a prime 7 p.m. slot on Saturday, Aug. 12, occupying the stage time originally held by alt country crooner Orville Peck, who canceled his summer tour due to physical and mental concerns.
“Surprise,” Gray posted via an Instagram story on Monday, Aug. 7, with a winky face. “See y’all at the Twin Peaks stage this Saturday.”
His sunset-timed set will coincide with French alternative dance group L'Impératrice and Grammy-nominated songwriter Maggie Rogers, and arrive just before the night’s closers Foo Fighters and Lana Del Ray.
The 24-year-old musician, a native of the San Diego-adjacent city of Lemon Grove, began making coming-of-age-themed music as a teen with songs like “Generation Why” about being a “helpless, selfish … Millennial kid.” His soft-spoken confessional style first earned the artist attention in 2017 with a trickle of self-released singles until 2020, when Gray’s more upbeat, pop-focused single “Maniac” became a Billboard-charting single and he became a popularTikTokpresence.
Over the last three years, Gray has entered the realm of the high-profile musicians he was once a fan of. In a 2022interview with GQ, in which he was deemed “the new prince of sad songs,” Gray shared his admiration for songwriterTaylor Swift, who had tapped him and pop starOlivia Rodrigoto cover one of her songs on TikTok. In April 2022, Gray joined Rodrigo on her “Sour” tour to perform a Katy Perry covertogether on stage.

Gray’s late addition functions as a replacement for Peck, who announced the cancellation of his “Bronco” tour and Outside Lands appearance earlier this summer.
“Being onstage is my favourite thing in the world,” wrote the Canada-based musician in anInstagram poston June 21. “But I have to take this time to replenish my mind and body so that I can come back stronger and healthier than before.”
