San Francisco’sStern Grove Festival,一个主要的城市文化景观1938, will return with an impressive lineup of musical acts this summer.
The 86th season of the free concert series, which drew more than 70,000 attendees last year, runs from June 18 through Aug. 20, and will featurePatti Smith,the Flaming Lipsand Indigo Girls among a slew of eclectic acts, organizers announced on Tuesday, April 25.
The festival is set to open with a performance by the stage-sagging jazz collectiveSnarky Puppy, which includes nearly two dozen musicians, with support by guitarist Isaiah Sharkey. The Sunday afternoon concerts continue with the songwriting duo Indigo Girls, who are scheduled to make their Stern Grove debut on June 25, alongside co-headliner Neko Case.
Other notable performers include Grammy-winner Lyle Lovett (July 9), blues icon Buddy Guy (Aug. 6) and the Brooklyn-based musicianSantigold(July 2).

The San Francisco Symphony, which has played the festival every year since it started more than eight decades ago, will this year be joined by funk collective Lettuce on July 23.
Smith, known as the “godmother of punk,” will take the stage on Aug. 13, while the Flaming Lips will close out the festival on Aug. 20 with their signature cosmic rock as part of the festival’s annual fundraiser known as the Big Picnic.
The season-ending show helps keep the summer concerts admission-free and supports arts education programs in the Bay Area.
Despite sufferingextensive natural damageover the past five years due to flooding, fire and storms, the festival’s 33-acre spot remains a beloved home for music lovers.

Although admission to the festival remains free, organizers will continue to use an online reservation system. Attendees can reserve free passes on a first-come, first-served basis beginning one month before each concert. Reservations for the season-opening performance on June 18 are available starting 2 p.m. May 18. The tickets will be offered in waves to ensure that everyone has a fair chance to attend.
The festival is also partnering again with Mixhalo, technology that will allow attendees to use their phone, headphones and the free Mixhalo mobile app to listen to “crystal-clear, real-time audio coming straight from the soundboard.” There will be free headphone rentals at select concerts throughout the season.
Organizers will also once again offer a live stream of each concert.
