BottleRock Napa Valley, which traditionally kicks off the Bay Area summer music festival season, returns to its usual Memorial Day spot on the calendar in 2022.
经过一年的大延迟,为期三天的勒克斯e Wine Country event returned last year with its usual assortment of top-tier touring acts, local food and wine offerings, chaotic cooking demonstrations by celebrity chefs and, of course, on-site spas. The ever-expanding list of VIP perks was back too.
Now, less than nine months later, it’s back with more than 75 acts scheduled to perform Friday-Sunday, May 27-29, at the Napa Valley Expo, with headliners such as Bay Area heavy metal godsMetallica, Grammy-winning pop singerPink, alt-pop groupTwenty One Pilots, deep house producer Kygo, Michigan rockers Greta Van Fleet, Mr. Worldwide himself Pitbull, country star Luke Combs and the West Coast rap supergroup Mount Westmore, featuring Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and the Bay Area’s own E-40 and Too Short.
因为这个节日始于2013年,它增长to become one of the biggest music festivals on the West Coast, alongside San Francisco’s Outside Lands and Southern California’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, with some 120,000 people expected to attend over the holiday weekend.
BottleRockreturnedduring Labor Day weekend in 2021, becoming thefirst major music festival in the Bay Area to offer live performances since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic with a lineup that includedappearances byFoo Fighters, Miley Cyrus,Guns N’ Roses,Megan Thee Stallionand more. In its wake, local health officials cited few COVID-19 cases linked to the festival. This time, without enforcing any COVID protocols, festival organizers are hoping for the same outcome.
Here are some tips for navigating the weekend.
Where is BottleRock 2022?
BottleRock Napa Valley takes place at the Napa Valley Expo, a 26-acre plot near downtown Napa, an outdoor venue that typically hosts dog shows, craft fairs and carnivals.
The team behind BottleRock has made several improvements to the site over the years, installing a lawn, planting trees and opening up the walkways specifically for the festival — and they continue to enhance the space. Come Memorial Day weekend, the festival grounds will be completely transformed with several stages, micro wineries, lounging areas, multilevel VIP viewing decks and an assortment of immersive experiences that are pure Wine Country.
How do I get there?
Since BottleRock takes place in downtown Napa — and there are so many refreshments available throughout the day — the ideal way to attend is to stay at a nearby hotel and walk to the grounds. The next best bet, if you’re staying locally, is to bike (complimentary parking is available near the venue), take Napa Valley’s Vine Transit or use a ride-hailing service.
If you’re coming from out of town, BottleRock buses (party buses by default) operate on a round-trip circuit daily from San Francisco, Sacramento, Oakland, San Jose, Fairfield, Sonoma, Mill Valley, Palo Alto and Santa Rosa.
For those intent on facing Memorial Day weekend traffic in Wine Country, a limited number of general admission parking passes for lots near the festival can be purchased in advance.
Who’s playing BottleRock 2022?
In addition to its headliners, the 2022 lineupfeaturessets by the Black Crowes, Chvrches, Spoon and BottleRock veterans Michael Franti & Spearhead.Other acts on the bill include Alessia Cara, Vance Joy, the Wailers featuring Julian Marley, Iration, Greensky Bluegrass, Amos Lee, Yola and Foy Vance, among many others.
“We always want to have a lineup that has something for everyone,” said Dave Graham, one of the partners at BottleRock Napa Valley. “We want to have something that’s cool enough for the cool kids and approachable enough for the 40- to 70-year-olds. Our demographic is in that bell-shaped curve.”

What’s the vibe?
Wine Country — and family-friendly — casual.
BottleRock tends to draw an older, more affluent demographic than most music festivals. There are more dads in Wilco tees than teenagers in Brandy Melville crop tops. They are also just as happy hanging out in the JaM Cellars cabana or indoor spa spaces as they are out in the field dancing.
BottleRock prominently boasts rock acts from the top down, but the promoters have made an effort to draw in more eclectic audiences by booking indie, hip-hop and EDM acts on the secondary and side stages.
Of course, you may be too busy sipping rosé and noshing on poké to notice.
What are the food and drink options?
Music is not the only attraction at BottleRock. The festival also features alively culinary stage, hosted by Bay Area radio and TV personality Liam Mayclem, which offers one-of-a-kind cooking demonstrations.
Among the celebrity chefs slated to appear at the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage during this year’s festival are Los Angeles chef Roy Choi of Kogi BBQ food truck fame; Aarón Sánchez, a judge on “MasterChef”; and Bay Area restaurateurMichael Mina, the culinary force behind several upscale eateries such as Pabu Izakaya in San Francisco and the Bungalow Kitchen in Tiburon.
They will be joined by several of this year’s musical headliners like Pink, Twenty One Pilots, Luke Combs, E-40 and Too Short of the rap super-group Mount Westmore, among others.
Once you work up an appetite, head out onto the grounds for bites from many of the area’s finest chefs and restaurateurs, including Morimoto, Mustards Grill, La Toque, Oenotri and Horn Barbecue.

There will also be wines from more than a dozen of Napa Valley’s most well-known wineries, including Duckhorn Portfolio, the Prisoner Wine Co., Schramsberg Vineyards, Robert Mondavi Winery and Mumm Napa. There are beer and cocktails options too, plus a bourbon bar.
The Chronicle’sexperts suggesta practice lap before diving in. Take a brief stroll around the two main food and beverage areas to survey your options before impulse-buying your lunch. And if you get caught up in the music and walk away from the festival still hungry, don’t worry, there areplenty of placesin downtown Napa to grab a bite.
What happens after the festival?
The music carries on long after the Napa Valley Expo’s strict curfew, with BottleRock hosting several shows around the Bay Area during the festival weekend to keep the party going.
BottleRock’spreview and late-night concertsare scheduled to run Thursday, May 19, through well after the festival — yes, till June 28 — at venues in Napa, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and San Jose, with many of the artists doing double-duty at the festival. Among the acts on theBottleRock Afterdarkschedule are Altas Genius, the Suffers, Marc E. Bassy and the Wedding Band, a covers band that features Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo.
