The Cinequest Film & Creativity Festival, hosted annually in San Jose and Campbell, is back in theaters for the first time since 2020, running Tuesday, Aug. 16, through Aug. 29.

Here’s a look at 11 highlights from this year’s lineup:
‘Linoleum’

This in-depth documentary investigates hyphy, the hip-hop offshoot born in 1990s Oakland, looking at both the music and the Bay Area conditions that made it possible. Among the local luminaries featured are recording artist and actor Benjamin Earl Turner, actor and writer Rafael Casal, and rapper Kamaiyah.

‘Rough Edges’

Iranian immigrant Simin (Sheila Vand) records people’s dreams for the bureau and uses the more interesting ones for a personal social media project. Co-scripted by the late celebrated screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière (“The Unbearable Lightness of Being”), this surreal political satire unfolds like a dream. Matt Dillon and Isabella Rossellini costar.
