Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” world tourwill be a visual album after all.
Following in the footsteps ofTaylor Swift,Grammy-winning record breakerhas announced that a film version of her 56-show run, which ended Sunday, Oct. 1, in Kansas City, Mo., will be released theatrically in two months.
“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” is scheduled to hit movie theaters on Dec. 1. Tickets, priced at $22, are on sale now through theater chainsAMC Theatres,Regal CinemasandCinemark.
“Renaissance” is set to be released seven weeks after“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”opens in theaters onOct. 13. Both tours stopped by Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara over the summer.
The title of the “Renaissance” film suggests that Beyoncé has at least codirected it. If so, it would be her 27th directorial credit, a list that includes codirecting famed visual albums such as “Lemonade” (2016), “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” (2019) and“Black Is King”(2020).
Atrailerfor “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” released through the singer’s YouTube channel, suggests there will be behind-the-scenes peeks as well as spectacular concert footage.
“When I am performing, I am nothing but free,” she says in the trailer. “The goal for this tour was to create a place where everyone was free and no one was judged.”
According toVariety, Beyoncé negotiated a similar deal as Swift in that each is set to receive 50% of the box-office grosses. Swift’s film is expected to top $100 million in its first weekend.
“Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé”(not rated) hits theaters nationwide Dec. 1.
The five-month “Renaissance” tour reportedly drew some 2.7 million concertgoers and grossed $550 million, according toBillboard.
