‘Stage Mother’ (2020)
A bittersweet comedy released in the early days of the pandemic and written by San Francisco’s Brad Hennig, “Stage Mother” is a tale of growth and redemption. Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook”) plays Maybelline Metcalf, a conservative Christian housewife and choir director who learns that her drag queen son has passed away. They were estranged at the time due to her husband’s homophobia, and she always mourned having lost contact with her son.

‘A Christmas Story’ (1983)

In a lesser actor’s hands, Mother Parker would be forgettable, but Dillon might have actually crafted the best mom performance of all time. That should get more attention than the leg lamp.

‘Voorhees (Born on a Friday)’ (2011)
When it comes to righteously violent mothers, there are some amazing ones to choose from. The Bride from “Kill Bill,” the duel of maternal warriors in “Aliens” and the black sadism of “Serial Mom” are all great contenders. Standing above them all remains Pamela Voorhees, the mother of famed hockey-masked slasher Jason. The role was played with incredible verve by Betsy Palmer in the first “Friday the 13th” movie, and many comics and fan films have tried to expand Pamela’s story over the years.

‘The Secret of NIMH’ (1982)
The crowning achievement of Don Bluth’s animation career also contains one of the greatest animated mothers. Mrs. Brisby (Elizabeth Hartman) is a widowed mouse with four children, one of whom is critically ill with pneumonia. To make matters worse, her home in a farmer’s field is about to be plowed under before he will be well enough to move. Desperate, she enlists the help of the Rats of NIMH, a society of super-intelligent rodents that her late husband used to work with.
