Mark Hamill, known for his iconic portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the “Star Wars” franchise, is set to make a rare convention appearance at the secondFan Expo San Franciscothis fall.
The three-day event, celebrating pop culture, comics, and gaming, is scheduled to take place over Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 24-26, during which Oakland native Hamill plans to be available for photo ops, fan meet-and-greets, and his first autograph signing since 2017, in addition to headlining a live event.
Other notable guests already announced for the event include fellow “Star Wars” actorEwan McGregor; “Spider-Man” trilogy director Sam Raimi; “Star Trek” iconWilliam Shatner; “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy star Sean Astin; and Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime in the “Transformers” series.
In total, around 20 celebrities are expected to participate in the convention, now in its second year.

“We expect to welcome thousands of fans not just from California but flying in from around the world to take advantage of this special occasion and spend the weekend with us,” said Andrew Moyes, vice president of the organization, in a statement.
Tickets for the “Mark Hamill Live” event scheduled for the first day of the convention will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, via the Fan Expo website.
The family-friendly convention boasts cosplay competitions as well as a range of demonstrations and workshops for attendees.
Show director Missy Morris has high hopes for the event, previously telling the Chronicle the “goal is to make Fan Expo a San Francisco holiday tradition.”
Fan Expo HQ, the world’s largest comic convention producer, has committed to hosting the event at the Moscone Center for a five-year period.
