To me, that’s pretty much what you’re asking me. Even if you like stocking shelves, why would you want to spend a precious night off doing precisely what you do for a living? I see enough action movies in the course of my work. I’m not going to get the shakes if I haven’t seen one in three days.
This is not to say that I don’t watch movies in my free time. But unless it’s repertory, I almost never go to a theater, and I never watch the kinds of things I’d encounter on the job. I watch old movies or foreign movies — that to me is recreation — and I let all the 49-year-old action stars wait until Monday.

Good Morning, Sue:I’ve watched a lot of movies more than once. I’ve seen many at least 10 times, and a few as much as 40 times (“Camille,” “Queen Christina”). And yes, if the movie is good, you do notice more in it. But even if you don’t, at a certain a point a movie can become like a place that you visit. It reminds you of when you first saw it. It shows you how you’ve changed.

Theappealof a TV series is that it goes on and on, and you don’t have to process a new set of characters, and they keep hitting you with cliffhangers. With a really good show, such as “Breaking Bad,” you end up feeling addicted. But this subject deserves a much longer answer, probably a whole column.
