British singer-songwriterEllie Gouldingis the latest pop artist to appear in concert with an orchestra — and she’s coming to the Bay Area to collaborate with the San Francisco Symphony.
Goulding’s three-date U.S. tour is scheduled to make a stop at Davies Symphony Hall on Nov. 20 for a one-night performance with the Symphony. The conductor is still to be announced.
The Grammy-nominated artist plans to perform songs from her latest album, “Higher Than Heaven,” released in April, as well as other material from her catalog arranged for symphony orchestra.
Artist presale tickets are available starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, atwww.elliegoulding.com. General sales begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, atwww.sfsymphony.org/ellie.
The singer, known for such hits as “Miracle” and “Love Me Like You Do,” plans to perform in more intimate settings than her usual large-scale arena and festival shows, which include pyrotechnics. For Goulding, the change may be a welcome one following her recent experience at the Victorious Festival in the U.K., when an errant firework grazed her face during a concert.
In an Instagram post last month, which was subsequently deleted, Goulding reassured her fans, “I am OK! Pyro didn’t hit me directly in the face. Face is intact. Love you thank you x.”
Goulding’s orchestra tour also includes dates in New York with the Wordless Music Orchestra and in Los Angeles with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
The announcement on Wednesday, Sept. 6, comes during SFJazz’s opening 2023-24 season where Grammy-winning Bay Area-based R&B and jazz singerLedisi is expected to perform a tribute to Nina Simonebacked by an orchestra at Davies Symphony Hall on Friday, Sept. 8.
Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros’ also announced plans to tour with an orchestra last month. The band is scheduled for an Oct. 29 appearance presented by Stanford Live at Stanford’s Frost Amphitheatre, accompanied by the Stanford Symphony Orchestra.
