Foo Fighterswon three Grammys before the prime-time broadcast of the Grammy Awards on Sunday, April 3, just a little over a week after the band’s drummer,Taylor Hawkins,died while on tour.
The group won prizes for best rock performance for “Making a Fire,” best rock song “Waiting on a War,” and best rock album for “Medicine at Midnight,” making a clean sweep of every category it was nominated for during the64th annual Grammy Awards.
Foo Fighters have now won 15 Grammy Awards in all,reportedlythe most of any American band in the history of the show.
None of the members of the band, who were scheduled to perform on the telecast, was present at Sunday’s ceremony in Las Vegas.
Hawkins, who was the band’s drummer for more than 25 years, died at age 50 in Bogota, Colombia, where the band had been scheduled to play a music festival on March 25.
Producers honored Hawkins with a brief montage during the ceremony, and Billie Eilish wore a T-shirt bearing Hawkins’ image and name during her performance of “Happier Than Ever.”

The last time theFoo Fighterswere in the Bay Area, they headlined theBottleRock Napa Valleymusic festival in2021— theirsecond timetopping the bill at the luxe Wine Country concert.
The band, led by Dave Grohl, was scheduled to perform at theAftershock Festivalin Sacramento in October before itcanceledall its upcoming tour dates last week.
“We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned,” the band said in a statement posted on social media. “Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.”
