Hardly Strictly Bluegrassfestival organizers have confirmed the second roster of artists slated to perform in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park this fall, which includes a handful of festival veterans. Among them are the indie actKurt Vile& the Violators; English singer-songwriterBeth Orton;and local favorites, roots rockerChuck Prophet& the Mission Express.
The latest lineup additions, confirmed Wednesday, Aug. 9, also boast Tennessee-based singer-songwriter Lilly Hiatt, folk musicians Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman, country-punk band Lucero, traditional bluegrass outfit the Travelin’ McCourys, blues singer and guitarist Buffalo Nichols, roots supergroup Mighty Poplar, and Texan musician Carrie Rodriguez. All are slated to perform during the free three-day concert, set to take place Sept. 29-Oct. 1, at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
Like the previous lineup announcement, a medley was released a day before, streaming on Hardly Strictly Bluegrass’official websiteand festival app to tease the news.
John Caldon几乎没有严格执行主任Bluegrass, said this year’s festival will also feature a revamped layout, new stages and the introduction of an additional space in the park that will also feature live music. Formerly known as the festival’s Porch Stage, it will be relocated to the west end of Hellman Hollow and rebranded as the Arrow Stage. The Bandwagon Stage, meanwhile, will move to a grassy area of McLaren Pass, creating a new performance venue dubbed Horseshoe Hill.

Avery Hellman, a grandchild of Hardly Strictly Bluegrass founder Warren Hellman, said the new space will honor the festival’s roots.
“Horseshoe Hill was influenced by a sense of place and developed with our most beloved Bluegrass legends like Hazel Dickens, Dolly Parton and Bill Monroe in mind,” he said in a statement. “We hope their legacies inform and inspire the up-and-coming artists, spoken word performers and poets who will grace this stage for years to come.”
This second wave of artists joins previously announced performers such as the Americana actJason Isbelland the 400 Unit; cellist Leyla McCalla; Australian alt-rockersthe Church; a new project from X frontman, the John Doe Folk Trio; singer-songwriterValerie June; blues guitarist Christone “Kingfish” Ingram; comedic troubadour John Craigie; retro-soul musician Neal Francis; Canadian indie-rock outfit Bahamas; and Guatemalan composer Gaby Moreno.
“As a long-time festivalgoer and new member of the team, I could not be more excited to get back to the park this year,” Caldon said in a statement. “Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is unique as it gets with its eclectic lineup of living legends and rising stars, as well as an extraordinary ability to reinvent itself while staying true to its spirit.”
Additional performers will be revealed through teaser medleys on Aug. 22 and Sept. 5, to comprise more than 70 artists on the final bill.
This year’s festival will once again be available to stream around the globe viaHardly Strictly Bluegrass TV, which also includes original content and exclusive sets from the 2022 festival.
