Metallica吉他手Kirk Hammettis an insanely creative musician, and it’s evident in his short yet deeply revealing four-song EP. From “Maiden and the Monster” to “The Jinn,” Hammett — a恐怖电影爱好者— works with a few longtime collaborators to take what he calls an “audio-cinematic approach” to his first solo release.

San Francisco conductorEdwin Outwater, who worked withMetallica和旧金山交响乐on the live album“ S&M2”,”再次与哈米特(Hammett)合作,这次带领来自洛杉矶爱乐乐团的一群球员在四个乐器曲目上。

While “Portals” is an apt companion piece to the Metallica canon, it’s also sonically unique to Hammett as a singular force. He explains that his musical and metaphysical exploration is intentionally created to expand the imagination of the listener, telling《纪事》在最近的一次采访中歌曲“就像您脑海中的电影一样。”

Pusha T, “It’s Almost Dry” (Good Music/Def Jam)

If you were lucky enough to catch Pusha T’s performance at the final Treasure Island Music Festival in 2018, he made it abundantly clear why he’s one of the best rappers in the business: uncompromised lyricism and an inordinate level of confidence, with no backing track needed to lift his delivery.

The Virginia Beach native told hip-hop provocateur Charlamagne tha God in a recent interview that “this body of work is untouchable,” and for his fourth album King Push has brought along a slate of guests who have been instrumental in his career. Pharrell Williams produced “Neck & Wrist,” while Jay-Z adds a guest verse. Say what you will about Kanye West’s recent antics, but his and 88-Keys’ production skills are on point as Push dominates every inch of “Diet Coke.”

For any doubters of Push’s prowess, check him out for yourself — he’s scheduled to perform at the Regency in San Francisco on June 1.

Jazzanova, “The Sound of Detroit Reimagined” (BBE Music/180 Proof)

Singer Sean Haefeli is present throughout the album and straddles jazz, soul and hip-hop vocal sensibilities on tracks like Cox’s “Beyond the Dream” and saxophonist Sam Sanders’ “Face at My Window.” This is a stellar album to get lost in for fans of jazz, soul, funk and dance music as well as rare recordings.

Korean American producer Tokimonsta has a penchant for crafting music that is downright euphoric. On her latest collaboration with Nashville electro pop singer Morgxn, the pair put down a joyful dance number that finds ecstasy in coming out of isolation.

“After 2 long years of physical separation from our loved ones, this song is a celebration of togetherness and our love for each other,” Tokimonsta said in a statement.

Tokimonsta is scheduled to bring those positive vibes poolside at the Phoenix Hotel on June 12.

Ruby Red, “Too Late (to Call)” (Virgin Music Label)

The latest single from the Oakland-born, Los Angeles-based duo of Daniel Laner and Fernando Fine is damn good art pop. Following 2020’s instantly likable “Area of Affect” EP, they recently signed to the Virgin Music Label and are beginning to showcase what comes next.

Released last month, “Too Late (to Call)” has a synthy ’80s backing beat infused with stylish energy that’s ready for the floor. The track’s video also uses a very cool machine-learning framework that produces AI variations of Laner and Fine.
