NEW ALBUMS

Selena Gomez, “Rare” (Interscope)

Selena Gomezhas been through a lot since the release of 2015’s “Revival” – from her struggles with mental health and lupus to her tabloid-baiting relationships with Justin Bieber and the Weeknd. It all comes spilling out on her third studio album, which pairs whispery heartache with skyscraping choruses. The first single, “Lose You to Love Me,” produced by Billie Eilish’s brother and collaborator, Finneas, has already claimed the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s only a matter of time before the rest of the songs follow suit.

Harry Styles, “Fine Line” (Columbia)

Just when it felt like pop music had become untethered from its past glories, former One Direction starHarry Stylesdelivers an album that admiringly glances back at the grand gestures of the Beatles and David Bowie while sounding entirely like it was made for 2020. From the free-floating love song “Adore You” to the storming “Watermelon Sugar,” it’s an album of many moods and uninhibited ambition. Styles bleeds glamour, and here his music gives him the space he needs to strut, croon and beguile in equal measure.

Ariana Grande, “K Bye For Now (Swt Live)” (Apple Music)

Ariana Grande’s fans received an early Christmas present with the surprise release of the live album“K Bye for Now (Swt Live),” which she releasedDec. 22, just as she wrapped up the 100-dateSweetenerglobal tour. The set pulls together highlights from the concerts, with guest appearances by the likes of Childish Gambino, Nicki Minaj and Big Sean. Grande is not the most dynamic live performer, but the 32-track collection does a fine job of capturing the breathless spirit of her conceptual show, particularly as she coos through the verses of “Needy” and trills away at the climax of “Breathin’.”

Georgia, “Seeking Thrills” (Domino)

IfRobynpulls another disappearing act, we can rest assured that at least we have Georgia. On her new album, “Seeking Thrills,” the 30-year-old DIY London music producer born Georgia Barnes also trades in smart dance-pop, with songs like “Never Let You Go” and “Started Out” brandishing sleek house grooves and knockout melodies.

SONG OF THE MOMENT

Skip Marley and H.E.R., “Slow Down” (Island Recordings)

Skip Marley gives his grandfather Bob Marley’s laid-back reggae rhythms a cool update on this soulful, seductive collaboration with Grammy-winning Bay Area singer-songwriterH.E.R.Their rich voices melt together over the lovelorn verses and soaring chorus, generating just the right amount of steam.
