Two films of Metallica’s 40th anniversary shows at Chase Center to be released — with more in works

Metallicawill release two separate “re-edited and remixed” concert films documenting its40th anniversary showsat Chase Center in San Francisco, as part of the band’s partnership with the Coda Collection to release a series of concert and documentary films spanning its entire career.

的Thursday, March 24, the subscription streaming service made two classic Metallica concert films — 1998’s “Cunning Stunts” and 2019’s “Orgullo, Pasión, y Gloria: Tres Noches en la Ciudad de México” available to stream. It will follow those titles with a pair of “Metallica 40th Anniversary Live” concert films, recorded in December and scheduled for release March 31 and April 7, respectively.

The 1992 documentary, “A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica,” which follows the group during the making of “The Black Album,” will arrive on the Coda Collection on April 21. “Quebec Magnetic,” a concert film released in 2012 that documents a pair of shows at Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City during the band’s “World Magnetic Tour,” will arrive May 19.

The series will wrap with “Français Pour Une Nuit,” another live set filmed in 2009 at Arena of Nîmes in France, on June 9.

The Coda Collection, which launched in 2021 as a way to allow music fans to experience concerts from home during the pandemic, specializes in programming highlighted by music documentaries, concert films and episodic series about musicians. The service offers hours of exclusive content by artists such as Jimi Hendrix, the Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Radiohead and many others.

Those who would rather experience Metallica live can catch the band among the headliners for the 2022BottleRock Napa Valleymusic festival, which takes place overMemorial Day weekend, May 27-29, at the Napa Valley Expo.

The band will also headline this year’sLollapaloozafestival, which returns to Grant Park in Chicago July 28-31. Metallica will play a pair ofsummer stadium shows in August, as well, including Highmark Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y., on Aug. 11, and PNC Park in Pittsburgh on Aug. 14.
