Regina Spektor cancels tour, S.F. date after losing voice to COVID

Regina Spektorhas canceled her remaining2022 tour dates, including a stop in San Francisco,after testing positive forCOVID-19.

The singer-songwriter, who was born in Moscow and raised in New York, said in anInstagram poston Wednesday, Oct. 12, that she has lost her voice and has “gone from feeling bad, to worse, to terrible.”

Spektorwas on tour in support of her latest album, “Home, Before and After,” and the reissue of her debut release, “11:11.” She had 10 dates left on her North American tour, which kicked off in Napa at the Oxbow RiverStage in June, and was scheduled to return to the Bay Area for a date at the Warfield in San Francisco on Oct. 25, before wrapping up two days later at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

Spektor has been asking fans to wear masks to her tour in order to avoid catching the coronavirus.

“After being so careful and miraculously avoiding it for over 2.5 years, I came down with a bad case of COVID,” herpostsaid. “I’m so sorry to everyone who bought tickets and was coming to see me in their town. I have gone from feeling bad, to worse, to terrible. I’ve lost my voice. I am a bit delirious from fever, so in advance, I apologize if this note isn’t too coherent.”

“Home, Before and After” is the piano-playing singer’s first album in six years, and was inspired by a five-night run of shows she played on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre prior to the pandemic.

“I have had a really hard time lately, and all your love has been helping me so much. I hope mine reaches you as well,” Spektor continued in her social media announcement Wednesday. “For now — I will have to sing to you from past recordings, and we will reschedule the shows for when the theaters are able to have me back.”
