The Rolling Stoneshave unveiled details of their first studio album in nearly two decades.
The surviving members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band —Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood — introduced “Hackney Diamonds,” including its album cover, track list and lead single, “Angry,” during aglobal livestreamhosted by “The Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
Scheduled for release on Oct. 20, the 12-track album features a mix of “love songs, ballads, country-type” music, according to Jagger, marking the band’s first original material since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang.”
Produced by Andrew Watt, who has worked with artists such asPost MaloneandElton John, it’s the first recording without drummerCharlie Watts, who died in 2021. Drummer Steve Jordan steps in on 10 of the tracks, with the remaining two featuring Watts. Former bassistBill Wyman也使得出现在one of the songs.
During the livestream, the band premiered the music video for “Angry,” starring actressSydney Sweeneyof “The White Lotus” and “Euphoria” fame. The video shows Sweeney riding in a red convertible past vintage Stones billboards along the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.
Some of the other song titles the band mentioned during the event included “Whole Wide World,” “Live by the Sword,” “Dreamy Skies,” “Tell Me Straight” and “Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” with the latter featuring Lady Gaga, Wood said.
“我不想被自大,但我们不会哈ve put this album out if we hadn’t really liked it,” Jagger said. “We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves. We are quite pleased with it.”
Last year, the London band founded in 1962 celebrated its 60th anniversary with a tour of Europe. While the Stones did not announce a tour at Wednesday’s event, with the band members in an amicable mood, a stadium trek seems all but inevitable.
“When a singer wants to make a record, you record him, because you never know the next time you’re gonna get it,” Richards said. “So when Mick said to me, ‘I want to make a record,’ I … said, ‘Let’s go.’ ”
“Well, that’s good to know, isn’t it?” Jagger said.
“I’ve never told you that before,” Richards said.
“You shouldn’t have told me now,” Jagger added, sparking laughter among the group. “That’s good to know, that’s all I’ve got to do.”
