Jazz vocalistGregory Porter,bassist Marcus Miller and R&B star Anthony Hamilton are the headlining acts at the 33rd annualSan Jose Jazz Summer Fest, organizers announced Thursday, April 13.
The three-day event, set to take place Aug. 11-13 in and around Plaza de Cesar Chavez Park in the heart of the city’s downtown district, also boasts more than 100 acts across eight stages. Confirmed artists include the Bad Plus, Grace Kelly, W.I.T.C.H., Veronica Swift, Marcus Shelby New Orchestra featuring Tiffany Austin, Vanessa Collier, Patrice Rushen and Billy Childs, among others.
Early bird tickets are sold out, but advance price tickets are available until July 31 ranging from $115 to $680 for three-day passes, with single-day tickets priced between $30 and $250, atsummerfest.sanjosejazz.org. VIP options are also available.
Despite its name, San Jose Jazz’s programming spans beyond jazz, with a diverse range of genres including R&B, Latin, salsa and global music.
“We are very passionate about providing top tier programming that’s both international in scope as well as reflective of San Jose,” San Jose Jazz Executive Director Brendan Rawson said in a statement.
Summer Fest, which began as a two-day free festival in 1990, has since evolved into a flagship event for San Jose Jazz, a nonprofit organization that also runs several music education programs, a year-round concert series and the smaller companion Winter Fest.
Other confirmed acts scheduled to appear include the Vocal Gents of Jazz with Kenny Washington, Nicolas Bearde and Jamie Davis; Gabi Hartmann; Luca Stricagnoli; Halie Loren; Ronit Widmann-Levy; Angel Romero; and Benny Benack III.
