This weekend’s Stern Grove headliner canceled due to COVID-19. Here’s who is replacing her

Just days from her headlining set atStern Grove Festival’s third concert on Sunday, June 26,Liz Phairannounced she has been forced to cancel her scheduled appearance.

Festival organizers said that Phair and her band had to pull out of the festival “due to COVID in her touring party.” Those who already reserved tickets to attend the free outdoor concert in San Francisco were alerted via email Friday, June 24.

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and feminist iconAni DiFrancois now scheduled to perform, along with Nashville musician Madi Diaz. DiFranco was already scheduled to perform at the Fillmore on Sunday night.

Bay Area acts Peaches Christ and DJ LadyRyan remain on the bill, as scheduled.

Thefree summer concert seriesopened its 85th year on June 12 with an Oakland doubleheader featuring East Bay funk veteransTower of Powerand rapper Too Short, the concert that was originally scheduled to end the 2021 season but postponed due to flooding at Stern Grove. Berkeley indie-pop iconToro y Moi, along with Oakland alt-rock trio Hello Yello performed on June 19.

The remainder of the season is expected to bring the Cold War Kids and former San Francisco residentGeographeron July 3; followed by Old Crow Medicine Show and Molly Tuttle on July 10;Cat Powerand Oakland’s own Spellling on July 17; country star LeAnn Rimes and Amythyst Kiah on July 24; the San Francisco Symphony on July 31; and blues musicianTaj Mahaland the soul band Monophonics on Aug, 7.

The season is set to close with the annual Big Picnic fundraiser on Aug. 14, with a treat for local Grateful Dead fans asPhil Leshand Friends with Midnight North are scheduled to perform.
