Houston rapper Travis Scott plans to make his way to the Bay Area for Halloween during his Utopia-Circus Maximus Tour, his largest headlining tour since the deadly crowd surge at hishometown festival known as Astroworldin 2021.
This week Scott announced dates for the North American leg, which include two California stops — two nights at the Oakland Arena on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and another at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood (Los Angeles County) on Nov. 5, the two-year anniversary of the Astroworld tragedy, which left 10 dead and several more injured.
The victims all died from compression asphyxia as hundreds of fans pushed to the front of the main stage during Scott’s performance. While some audience members tried to climb onto the stage to safety during his set, Scott played on. He later claimed he wasn’t aware of the severity of the situation at the time.
Since the festival, which Scott launched in 2018, the year he released his third studio album of the same name, the 32-year-old artist has faced immense public criticism for his negligent behavior and disregard for the safety of his fans during his concerts. During aheadlining set at the Warfieldin San Francisco in 2015, Scott was heard egging on the crowd in multiple videos to create mosh pits and rush the stage.
